2 drivers die in Richardson Highway crash near North Pole

    ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP & KINY) — Two drivers died Thursday in a crash on the Richardson Highway near North Pole.

    Alaska State Troopers took calls on the crash at 6:30 p.m.

    Callers reported a collision between an eastbound 2015 Kia RIO, and  2000 Volkswagen Jetta which was crossing the divided highway from the south side to the north side.

    The driver of the Kia was identified as 30 year old MacKenzie M. Barnum of Fairbnaks.

    Release of the identity of the other drive is still pending.  He was 77 years old.

    An investigation is continuing.   It is unknown if impairment was involved with any of the drivers.  The state medical examiner's office ordered an autopsy for both drivers.
