3 coaches fired as football reinstated at Dimond High

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) Bernardo Otero was fired along with two assistants for seriously inappropriate behavior during a trip to Fairbanks on August 18.

Superintendent Deena Bishop also lifted the team suspension which allows practice to resume.   Dimond is expected to play East High next Friday.

A police investigation into alleged misconduct will continue.

Most of the details about the case were not release because of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act and because it is an ongoing police investigation. The federal law protects the privacy of student records.

Anchorage schools, in a news release, said that student safety remains the number one priority.  Otero had just become the football coach this season.  He does not hold another job for the district.

Dimond High teacher Derek Brewer will be the school's new interim head football coach.  The district also scheduled mandatory training on the federal Title IX law for Dimond coaches, the school's principal and the school's activities assistant principal

.The district also posted the update on a website it had set up to share information about its investigation — dimondinfo.org.
