Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) Alaska internet and cable provider GCI reached a deal to keep those channels at least through January.
The Alaska Journal of Commerce reports the owners of the local network affiliates agreed to the extension as they continue to negotiate cost increases. Juneau has been without FOX for several months and would have lost ABC and the CW on January 1st without this extension.
GCI spokesperson Heather Handyside said the normal rate hikes for channels if under 20 percent. ABC, CW and Fox owners requested a 300 percent increase this year and that cost would of been handed down to customers.
"The negotiations aren't final and we're not out of the woods yet but we are making good progress," GCI said in a statement.
