The Alaska Dispatch reports that the Alaska Crate Company has been taking subscriptions since may and plans to send out its first boxes next month.

Like services that send monthly packages of pet toys or underwear -- or the more traditional wine- or cheese-of-the-month club -- the crate contains an assortment of Alaska-made food, drink, art, and other items from a variety of vendors.

Owner Brett Laichak of Anchorage says Alaska has a strong identity that people outside want to be a part of.
