Alaska golden grizzly license plate wins award

The revived version of Alaska's golden grizzly license plates won an award for the best design of 2015.

The revived version of Alaska's golden grizzly license plates won an award for the best design of 2015.

The Alaska Dispatch reports that the automobile license plate collectors association commended the plate for being "retro and modern at the same time."

A North Dakota plate with a bison came in second.

The plates are modeled on alaska's bicentennial plate from 1976, which the association says remains one of the most popular among collectors.

The legislature reinstated the design in 2014 at the request of a Ketchikan Resident, Jerry Cegelske (se-GELL-ski).

D-M-V says more than three-quarters of new plates selected the standing bear design.
