Alaska ranks second for most patriotic state

Alaska ranked 2nd in "Percent of Residents Who Enlisted in the Military", and 1st in both "Number of Veterans per Capita" and "Number of Active-Duty Military Personnel per Capita."

Alaska is 2016’s 2nd Most Patriotic State, according to a WalletHub study.

With the Fourth of July just days away, the personal-finance website has identified the country’s patriotic hotspots, comparing key metrics such as military engagement, volunteering, and civics education.

Alaska ranked 2nd in "Percent of Residents Who Enlisted in the Military", and 1st in both "Number of Veterans per Capita" and "Number of Active-Duty Military Personnel per Capita."

Alaska was ranked 8th in "Volunteer Rate" and 11th in "Volunteer Hours per Resident."

Alaska had an average score in "Civics Education Requirements," coming in at 22nd.

Virginia topped the list as most patriotic and South Carolina came in after Alaska at third.

New York, Connecticut and New Jersey were at the bottom of the list.

Wallet Hub also states that it appears that patriotism has been waning in recent years.

While 38% of Americans said the U.S. was the best country in the world in 2011, that number fell to 28% in 2014.
