Alaska Supreme Court will hear House District 1 case Friday

Fairbanks, Alaska (KINY) - The Alaska Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Friday in the case of House District 1 candidates Bart LeBon (R) and Kathryn Dodge (D).

The outcome of the case could affect which party or caucus holds the majority when the Alaska State Legislature gavels into session on Jan. 15.

LeBon, through his attorney, raised the questions as part of an ongoing legal fight over the Fairbanks seat. LeBon asked that he be reaffirmed the winner.

A recount showed LeBon winning by one vote over Democrat Kathryn Dodge, who appealed the outcome to the Alaska Supreme Court.

Dodge had initially led LeBon by a single vote, but a recount certified Dec. 30 put LeBon ahead with 2,263 votes to Dodge's 2,262.

Arguments will begin at 9 a.m. in Anchorage, with each side's attorneys having 20 minutes to present arguments for the candidates.

There is no timetable on when the Court could issue a decision.
