Alleged killer drove home by Trooper

Wasilla, Alaska (KINY) Details of how Alaska State Troopers handled a domestic dispute that turned into a murder investigation continue to come out Monday.

The Department of Public Safety released a statement that said a Trooper gave the suspect, Anthony Smith, 38, a ride home just hours before he allegedly killed his wife.

Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan said Mr. Smith was pulled over during a traffic stop, given field sobriety tests, successfully completed them, and was  provided a ride home, which is within department policy.

Troopers were later called to the home in Big Lake for a disturbance.  They did not make any arrests.  Three hours later they were called back to the home and found Amy Smith, 37, unresponsive.  She was given CPR by EMS crews but could not be revived.

Mr. Smith faces first degree murder charges in the case.
