ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Demonstrations during the Pledge of Allegiance seen elsewhere in the country have spread to the Anchorage Assembly.
Downtown Assembly Member Patrick Flynn kneeled as the meeting got underway Tuesday night.
Flynn said the gesture was in solidarity with those protesting against racial inequality, but not in response to anything specific in Alaska.
Eagle River Assembly Member Amy Demboski called Flynn's gesture disrespectful. Flynn responded saying he is truly concerned about the divisiveness in the country and hopes to include more people in the conversation.
