Juneau, AK (KINY) - November is Avalanche Education Awareness Month in Alaska, which was created in an effort to raise awareness of how avalanches happen, what to do to avoid being hurt, and what to do if caught in an avalanche.
Avalanches are typically tied closely to the weather of an area. Abnormally warm weather or storms during the Winter can raise the chances of one happening. To stay up to date on these sorts of dangers, always check AlaskaSnow.org
The month of education kicks off this week on November 2nd in Anchorage with the Alaska Snow Safety Summit at Alaska Pacific University from 3pm to 8pm.
