Bear Cub Euthanized After Being Caught in Wolf Snare

Douglas, Alaska (KINY) - The cub was caught in a wolf snare and had suffered extensive injury.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers said the cub was discovered May 29th near Ready Bouillon Creek on Douglas Island. Alaska Department of Fish and Game officers first responded and determined the bear had to be put down due to its injuries.

Investigation found that the snare was there illegally. A 39-year-old Juneau man was cited for attempting to trap wolves during a closed season. The season ended April 30th and the bear was discovered nearly one month later.
