Calendar for next year up for final School Board action

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Topping the agenda for Tuesday evening's meeting of the Juneau School Board is the adoption of the calendar of the 2019 - 2020 school year.

There are two alternatives.  One calls for starting earlier, the middle of August and finishing the semester before Christmas. The other is the status quo which calls for a later start and have the semester end the first or second week of January.

Board member Emil Mackey talked about that on Action Line.  He prefers the earlier date.  He said parents and students have told him that would rather have a pre-Christmas end date for the semester.

Also up for action are approval of Association of Alaska School Boards resolutions.

A work session prior to the regular meeting will discuss the association's School Climate and Connectedness Survey.

The work session convenes at 4:30 and the regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the library of Thunder Mountain High School.
