The Juneau Community Foundation and the City and Borough of Juneau recently announced three grants totaling $97,000 for senior care.

The grants, awarded to Catholic Community Services’ Southeast Senior Services Division, will be used to fund the organization’s Juneau Senior Nutrition Program, The Bridge Adult Day Program, and Senior Wrap Around Services in Juneau.

Amy Skilbred Juneau Community Foundation Executive Director was a guest on Action Line Monday.

"They also have Meals on Wheels and a program where people go out and meet with seniors and try to identify through the postman and others who might need services, so the funding will be supporting that work as well. All of these programs are experiencing funding needs. If people are able to contribute directly to CCS for Senior Services, it would be a great thing to do."

The CBJ grants provide funding for proposals that address significant social service needs in Juneau, and are funded in part through the city’s tobacco tax.

Skillbred also stated the Juneau Community Foundation is recruiting for a new second full time position.

"We're looking for someone who could be our program leader on our Field of Interests Funds. They include arts and cultures, schools and education, social services, health, and youth activities. What we're looking for is trying to build discretionary funds there that we can give out in grants."

The application deadline is July 29th.

CCS, which also received a grant for its hospice program, was one of 12 organizations to receive grants as part of the 2016 CBJ Social Service Grants. CBJ funded grants were also awarded to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Gastineau Human Services, the Douglas Community Methodist Church, Discovery Southeast, Haven House, Front Street Center, Communities in Schools, AWARE, Alaska Legal Services, AEYC, and Alaska Development Corporation.
