Celebration of former CBJ Mayor Jamie Parsons' life Saturday at Centennial Hall

A celebration of former Mayor Jamie Parsons' life is set for Saturday afternoon at Centennial Hall.

Parsons was remembered by current mayor Ken Koelsch while a guest on Action Line Friday.

"Jamie Parsons was a former Assembly man and a mayor that I would emulate. He was an extraordinary promoter of Juneau. Some may remember him from the racquetball club and the softball fields; he was a competitor, and he competed against his illness to the very end. It's a community celebration of life, and I hope the community will show up to show their appreciation."

Pete Carran noted that he often wondered how Jamie Parsons was always so nice, and Koelsch responded in kind.

"I did too. I mean, you've got to have some downtime sometimes, but he always seemed unflappable and he always had a smile on his face."

The celebration of Parsons' life is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 16th at Centennial Hall.
