Top Juneau Chamber of Commerce officials commented on the two year budget approved by the Assembly Monday night while guests on Action Line Tuesday.

Vice President Eric Erikson also chairs the chamber's Government Affairs Committee.

"The budget went through fairly easily," Erikson began. "As the city is aware of the looming state fiscal concerns, I think it was a fairly neutral budget that was proposed. One of probably the most interesting things was the change in the mill rate; it actually went down a little bit, by 0.1 mills. I think that was a good compromise to the concerns of the public about the city taking in some excess funds associating with the rise in property appraisals."

Chamber President Dan Fabrello is casting a wary eye on the second year of the two year budget plan.

"One thing that people have to be watching is the 2018 budget to see if it jumps back up," Fabrello explained. "There could be a little bit of a bouncing around in the mill rate, but a reduction right now appears to be holding the line on the budget and trying to not bring in more revenue than what's needed.
