Commuter rail to be studied for Anchorage to Mat-Su Valley

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) Alaska Governor Bill Walker signed an executive order to establish a task force to study a commuter rail service between Anchorage and Wasilla.

KTUU news reported a nine member advisory group that includes mayors of communities along the potential route, will be meeting to discuss the rail link.  The group will also include a representative from the city-state Anchorage transportation agency, a member from the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, and two members from the public.

Supporters claim the rail line would help save money on highway maintenance and also improve the environment with less carbon emissions from vehicles.

The task force was asked to have a report ready for review by October, 2019.
