The group sued Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to seek reinstatement of the 2016 federal policy than bans state predator control policies for bears, wolves and other wildlife on federal land in Alaska.
The Obama administration had prohibited several practices like snares, nets and traps, hunting wolves or coyotes near dens, baiting bears and using aircraft. This included gassing wolf pups and shooting bears near bait stations.
An appeal is being considered in the lawsuit. There are 16 federal refuges in Alaska that total close to 77 million acres.
The state has used Department of Fish and Game staff to shoot wolves from helicopters in the past.
