The 70th Annual Golden North Salmon Derby has lost one of its local icons. Dick Garrison, one of this year’s derby dedication recipients, participated in the first 68 derbies.

Derby Co-chair Matt Robus spoke about Garrison on a recent Capital Chat. "He was the last surviving individual from a group of five people who had fished every derby up until they couldn't participate anymore," said Robus. "Dick fished in all derbies from 1947 through the year before last." Garrison died this past July at the age of 97.
