Dumpster fire stopped from reaching inside Salvation Army Thrift Store

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Capital City Fire Rescue possibly saved the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Willoughby Avenue from burning down Saturday morning.

Crews responded to a dumpster fire there shortly after 9 a.m.

We talked to Assistant Fire Chief Todd Chambers at the scene.  He said when they got on scene there was a significant flame rolling up into the building from the dumpster. He said they did a great job keeping the fire from spreading to the structure.  The chief called it "a great stop."

The cause is under investigation by the Fire Marshal's office.
