Explosives found near lake

Sitka, Alaska (KINY) The US Forest Service closed a road so the explosives could be disposed of safely.

The Daily Sitka Sentinel reported a person located two plastic tubes near a ramp into Blue Lake last week.  Turns out there was explosive materials inside the tubes.  The low water levels at the lake has exposed more of the area than usual this summer.

Electric Utility Director for the City and Borough of Sitka Bryan Bertacchi said they called in a licensed explosives handler, Southeast Earthmovers to remove the items.  They were burned a safe distance away.
