Feds indict three for prison drugs

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) Three men are under indictment for allegedly trying to smuggle in heroin to the Goose Creek Correctional Center.

Acting U.S. Attorney Bryan Schroder said Spencer Daniel Johnson, 24, Kalani Lemauga Maalona, 31, and Heaven Leigh Erick, 28, all are charged with conspiracy to smuggle controlled substances.  Johnson and Maalona were both inmates at the time of the incident in April, 2016.  Johnson was also charged with possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.

Authorities said they seized 20 grams of heroin from Mr. Johnson on April 11, 2016.  The heroin apparently was introduced into the prison on April 8.  There was no information released on whether any of the drugs made its way to inmates.

The FBI, DOC and Alaska State Troopers Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team all contributed to the investigation.
