Funding for consolidated recycling facility at landfill highlights Assembly agenda

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Ordinances up for public hearing and action at Monday night's Assembly meeting deal with authorizing and funding a new recycleworks consolidated facility at the landfill.

One measure funds nearly $1.5 Million from the recent sale of the Shaune Drive public property to Alaskan Brewing to consolidate recycling operations  and  the Household Hazardous Waste program at the landfill.

Another measure antes up $300,000 of the proceeds to reimburse the deferred Maintenance account  to fund  the renovations made to the old Valley Shop at 2520 Barrett Avenue which allowed  the Water Department to occupy the facility.

A resolution up for approval expresses support for the work of the U. S. Census Bureau to gain a complete and accurate count within the City and Borough of Juneau when the census is launched next year.

Manager Rorie Watt states in his report to the Assembly that during the counts in 2000 and 2010, Alaska had the lowest rate of return of census forms of all fifty states.

The Assembly meeting is scheduled to convene at 7 p.m. in Assembly Chambers at City Hall.
