Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The future management of Juneau's swimming pools is the subject of public hearings Tuesday evening and Wednesday, February 28.
They are being sponsored by the Aquatics Board that was created by ordinance in 2015 and is scheduled to sunset this coming May 28.
City Manager Rorie Watt talked about this matter on Action Line. "One of the things the pool board is undertaking is a governance planning exercise on how the pools should be run and organized."
Watt said one of the question is whether the pool board itself should be extended, whether pools should be under the Parks and Recreation Department or different models. Other options he said could including contracting with a non-profit organization like the YMCA or taking no action at all.
Tuesday evening's public hearing begins at 5:30 in Assembly Chambers at City Hall.
The February 28 hearing begins at the same time at the Dimond Park Aquatics Center.
