Governor adds drug prosecutor

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Governor Bill Walker included in his budget proposal for 2018-2019, a state wide drug prosecutor.

The Ketchikan Daily News reported that the Governor's Public Safety Action Plan, created to address the rampant rise in crime and drug use in the state, includes the new position.

Director of the Alaska Department of Law, John Skidmore, said the job would allow the state to focus more energy on cracking down on larger drug trafficking cases that occur around the state.

Skidmore said many prosecutors have large caseloads related to drug crimes and this new position should help.
