Governor says he'll add crime bill to fourth special session call

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Governor Walker says the state needs a plan of action to deal with Alaska's rising crime rate.

That comment during a press conference Friday afternoon comes in the wake of last week's report on the crime rate.

In response, the Governor says he wants the  special legislative session he plans to call for October 23  to deal with the issue.

Walker says he will add Senate Bill 54 to the call.  That legislation was approved by the Senate last session, but was still awaiting action by the House State Affairs Committee when the regular session adjourned this year.

The measure is aimed at making corrections to the crime legislation embodied in Senate Bill 91 when it was approved by the previous Legislature.
