ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Authorities say a helicopter pilot has died after crashing on the Denver Glacier in southeast Alaska.
The Alaska Dispatch News reports that Alaska State Troopers say 59-year-old Christopher Maggio was the only person on board when he crashed in Skagway Friday night. His body was recovered from the crash site Saturday.
Maggio had been flying for Temsco Helicopters, which runs a sled dog camp on the glacier.
The company says in a statement that Maggio crashed after dropping off supplies at the camp.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the incident.
The Friday crash comes one day after a pilot for Era Helicopters was injured after crashing on Norris Glacier.
