Highway Shut Down from Supposed Live Mortar Round

    Fairbanks, AK (KINY) - In Fairbanks, a part of the Richardson Highway was shut down due to reports of a supposed live mortar round.

    Troopers responded around 3:00 pm. The round was allegedly seen near mile post 352 and was called in by Cory Cargill, who is 28-years-old and of Fairbanks. Cargill believed the round to be a 61mm mortar round.

    Traffic was diverted to Badger Road and the highway has since reopened. There are no reports if the object was in fact a live round.
