Hoonah, Alaska (KINY) Rick Groshong has over 25 years of experience in law enforcement and knew at a young age that police work was his calling.
Groshong worked as Chief at the St. Mary's Police Department and also as interim chief for the Galena Police Department. For the past 22 years he worked for the Wrangell Police Department.
"When I attended college in Fairbanks I saw the police there on campus and I thought it would be an interesting job to do. "
He noted his first goal is to get to know the community. He noted Hoonah is currently hiring police officers. "My first goal is to get acclimated to the community, get to know everybody and learn the issues and problems that are specific to Hoonah and deal with those. I would imagine the main crime problem as in most small towns is domestic violence."
Groshong said part of the reason he took the position was because he liked the staff, the people in Hoonan and the people at city hall. He said he will have fond memories of his time in Wrangell, "To leave Wrangell was a tough decision, we have a lot of family and friends there and we definitely loved Wrangell.
