The body of a humpback whale that washed ashore in Turnagain arm, then washed away, has been found again. Scientists have collected tissue samples from the whale that was first spotted Tuesday near Hope in the Kenai Peninsula Borough.
They want to know if the death is connected with an unusually high number of whale deaths in the Gulf of Alaska.
Biologists also examined the carcass of a fin whale in Upper Knik Arm - a much rarer sight in Cook Inlet than humpback whales. It was first found last week alive and beached and later turned up dead.
