Irene Bedard to be Stage Manager in All Alaskan Performance of Our Town

Juneau, AK (KINY) - An Anchorage-born actress of Native descent will be the Stage Manager in the upcoming Perseverance Theatre opener Our Town, kicking off their 40th season. The production features an all Alaskan cast and is being directed by Art Rotch.

Irene Bedard, who is known for her voice work in Disney's Pocahontas and other impressive roles, is taking to the Perseverance stage for the first time. The role is also typically held by white men, but in recent times there has been more women and people of color claiming the presiding role. Our Town is a Pulitzer Prize-winning production that is one of the most-performed plays on American stages.

Our Town will be playing Oct. 5-Nov. 3 at the theatre in Juneau, and Nov. 9-25 at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts in Anchorage.

Aside from being the Stage Manager for Our Town, Bedard will also be in a leading role in Whale Song, the world-premiere play by Cathy Taganak Rexford (Inupiaq) that will perform through the month of February in Juneau, and March 8-17 in Anchorage.
