Mayor Ken Koelsch, on a recent Action Line, invited everyone out to Juneau's new road to housing, "Renniger Subdivision, noon July 27th, we will be opening up that road to the subdivision. The lots will create quite a bit of housing in that area." The mayor also said 3 lots are "pretty much dealt with" and two more are in the works.
The Jackie Street Ribbon Cutting is Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. with introductions starting at 12:10 p.m. Speakers will include City Manager Rorie Watt, Chief Housing Officer Scott Ciambor, Lands Manager Greg Chaney, Gruening Park Apartments staff, and Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School staff.
Chaney says, "Renninger Subdivision is providing new land for multi-family developments in the center of our community, on the road system."
Historically it was thought the area could only host 46 new units at a $30,000 per unit land development cost. Instead, the City has been able to build a subdivision capable of 189 units for $5,600 per unit cost.
Alaska Housing Development Corporation, owner of the nearby Gruening Park Apartments, is in the process of purchasing two of the six lots at Renninger Subdivision and intends to build them to maximum capacity. The Juneau Educational Home Build Partnership, also in the process of purchasing one lot, will construct single family homes with an educational component for high school and college students wanting experience in the construction trade sector.
Jackie Street is the road that leads to Renninger Subdivision, the first major subdivision the City has completed since 1999. Renninger Subdivision will provide for multiple types of housing developments like apartments, condos, and single family homes.
The City and Borough of Juneau invites the community to celebrate a new road to housing at the intersection of Jackie Street and Renninger Street, right by Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School and Gruening Park Apartments, Wednesday at noon. Parking is available at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School.
