June could see above average rain

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) May brought slightly warmer temperatures and more rainfall to Southeast.

    The area average temperature was 49 in May, with a high temperature recorded on May 18, 74, and the low temperature of 31 recorded on May 3.

    The area also saw 5.27 inches of rain in May compared to the average rainfall of 3.4 inches.

    Meteorologist Sharon Sullivan with the National Weather Service in Juneau said there are equal chances of above or below normal temperatures and precipitation in June.

    Sullivan said southern parts of the panhandle remain in slight drought conditions."Rainfall is below normal for this time of year in Juneau but not as bad as the southern Panhandle which is listed as abnormally dry."

    The total amount of rainfall in 2018 is about a half inch below normal in Juneau.
