Wasilla, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau Douglas Crimson Bears hockey team fell to Homer 3-0 on Friday night at the Division II state championship tournament in Wasilla.
The win came off a trio of third-period goals by Mariner Ethan Pitzman for the hat trick.
The game had been stuck at 0-0 until the sixth minute of the final frame. With Tyler Weldon in the box, Homer went up 1-0 off a power play score by Pitzman with 9:02 to go. Homer scored again with 3:10 to go on a second shot by Pitzman, who scored again at two minutes for the shutout win.
Cody Mitchell made a huge stop for Juneau Douglas in the opening moments of the third period.
Juneau Douglas had 20 shots on goal in the first two periods, with Hunter Warren being the lifesaver at goalkeeper for Homer. The Mariners had only four shots on goal in the first two periods.
In other games, the North Pole Patriots beat Delta Junction 8-4, while Glenallen bested Tri-Valley 1-0. The Palmer Mooses beat Soldotna 4-3 in OT.
Palmer will face Homer in the championship, while Juneau Douglas will face Soldotna for third place on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
