Juneau man found dead from gunshot, firearm found nearby

    JUNEAU, Alaska (KINY, Lori James) - Juneau Police reported Monday that a local man was found dead from a possible gunshot wound.

    Police say they received a report of an unresponsive man with a facial injury in a trailhead parking lot off of University Drive, Sunday morning a little after 11:00.

    He was identified as 39 year old Juneau resident Benjamin Parson

    A United Stated Forest Service Officer, JPD officers, and Capital City Fire Rescue personnel responded.

    Next of kin has been notified.

    The cause of death appears to be from a gunshot and a firearm was recovered from close proximity to Parson’s body.

    Parson’s body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for an autopsy.

    The investigation is continuing.
