The Juneau School District has negotiated a tentative contract agreement with its teachers.

Word of that came in a press release from the district Sunday afternoon.

Negotiations on a successor contract have been underway since February.  The current contract expires June 30.

The deal will now be submitted to the membership of the Juneau Education Association and the School Board for ratification.

The district press release says terms are currently being finalized for publication and will be available to the public following ratification.

The release says both parties are satisfied with the proposed agreement.

It quotes JEA chief spokesperson Patrick Roach as saying he felt the district and association worked well together to address concerns in the Interest Based Bargaining process.

Human Resources Director Ted VanBronkhorst said the district is pleased it has reached a fair settlement that recognizes the work of teachers and meets the contraints of the district's budget.

The press release does not disclose the length of the proposed contract agreement.  A tentative deal announced earlier with the Juneau Education Support Staff is for three years.  District officials were also hoping to negotiate a three year deal with teachers.
