Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Forecasters predict the first snow of the season early Friday.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Pete Boyd said a winter weather advisory is in effect from midnight tonight to noon Friday.
The forecast calls for a chance of snow late Thursday with about one to two inches. Friday, you can expect another two to three inches of snow.
"We have a low pressure season that will drop into the NE gulf. The weather will start spreading eastward over the panhandle tonight into Friday. We have a lot of cold air and moisture in the region. Models have come up with more accumulations as time goes on."
He expects Gustavus, Hoonah and Juneau to receive up to six inches of snow. "The worst of snow will really occur early Friday morning starting around 7 am until about noon. We'll start seeing the snow taper off into Friday evening. By Saturday, the system will drop to the south and we'll see a little bit of a brief break."
He said updates to the forecast will be made throughout the day. He urged motorists to use caution when driving. "People should be aware that this looks like a good snow event and to stay tuned."
