Juneau Trapper Cited for Wolf Snares for Third Time

Juneau, AK (KINY) - A Juneau man who already faced charges for attempting to trap wolves out of season faces another charge for continuing to do so.

According to a Wildlife Trooper report, 39-year-old Mark Mitchell was given a misdemeanor summons for an additional count of attempting to trap wolves during a closed season. In mid-July, Mitchell's wolf traps had been found attached to a dead bear cub on Douglas; wolf trapping season in the area ended on April 30th. Mitchell had also been cited for a third incident previous that also resulted in a bear cub being snared.

Arraignment for the new charge was set for September 27th at 11 am in the District Court in Juneau.

Troopers also believe that there could be more snares in the field on Douglas Island or around Thane. Anyone who comes across these snares is encouraged to contact Wildlife Troopers at 225-5118.
