Juneau unemployent rate drops in August

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Juneau unemployment rates fell from 4.4 to 4.1 percent in August according to the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

    Juneau had a 3.6 percent unemployment rate in August, 2016. The monthly report showed Alaska unemployment went up two-tenths of a percent to 7.2 percent last month.  The report found the state had lost 1,000 jobs in the oil and gas industry, 1,000 jobs in construction, and 600 jobs in state government over the past year.  The Southeast region saw a decrease from 5.1 percent in July to 4.9 percent in August.  The rate last summer was 4.4 percent.  Around the region the Haines Borough had a rate of 5.5 percent, the Hoonah-Angoon Census Area had 7.7 percent, the Ketchikan Gateway Borough had 4.6 percent, the Petersburg Borough had 7.1 percent, the Prince of Wales-Hyder had 9.7 percent, The Sitka City and Borough had 3.8 percent, Skagway had 2.8 percent and the Wrangell City and Borough had 6.4 percent unemployment in August.
