Prince of Wales, Alaska (KINY) Walter Forsberg, 19, of Metlakatla was convicted of 10 counts of possession of child pornography.
Forsberg faces a lengthy stay in prison as each count carries a penalty of between two and 12 years behind bars. He also would be required to register as a sex offender for 15 years. The sentence hearing was scheduled for January 25 before Superior Court Judge William Carey.
Prince of Wales Alaska State Troopers began the investigation in September, 2017 after they received a report of unlawful exploitation of a minor and on-line enticement of a minor.
A 15 year old girl reported she had received sexually explicit images via messenger.
Troopers report they seized the suspects cell phone, had it forensically examined, and learned the phone contained multiple images of child pornography. Troopers said the ages of the children in the images appeared to range from 18 months to 10 years old. The photos captured the children being sexually abused.
A grand jury indicted Forsberg four months later on the child pornography charges.
Troopers and the FBI have worked to identify the children in the images but no further updates have been provided.
