Sitka, Alaska (KINY) Reuben Yerkes, 40, was sentenced for killing his girlfriend, Ali Clayton, 28, during an argument.
The two had worked for the city of Sitka and had been dating for 10 weeks.
The Daily Sitka Sentinel reported that Yerkes pled guilty to second-degree murder at a hearing in June. Both the prosecution and defense recommended a sentence of 45 years.
The victims family also got an opportunity to address Yerkes at the sentencing hearing before Superior Court Judge Trevor Stephens. Yerkes will be eligible for discretionary parole after 15 years.
Yerkes apologized to the victims family at the hearing.
