Juneau, Alaska (KINY) Emil Mackey confirmed he would run for Assembly District 2 this fall.
Mackey said he had planned to run for re-election to his school board seat but changed his mind when Beth Weldon resigned the Assembly seat to run for Mayor.
Mackey said he thinks he can do the best job by listening to voters and their concerns, "I think that the school board has some good people running. That made the decision either. A good school system and a healthy vibrant Juneau community are my priorities. I want to make Juneau the best community that it can be."
Mackey said concerns of voters shift with need. "I think it's important for me to really listen and be thoughtful about the concerns that are voiced to me."
He said he will continue to support the local schools and will work to create jobs.
