Man shoots and kills dog after his dog was attacked

The Juneau Police Department this week was called to assist the Gastineau Humane Society on a report of animal abuse.

Chief Bryce Johnson was asked about that case on Action Line Wednesday.

The chief thought the incident occurred on Sunday in the 7700 block of Glacier Highway.

He said a young man was playing with  his dog in front of his house when another dog attacked his dog.  The chief says the man used a firearm to defend his dog and shot and killed the other dog.

The chief says it's his understanding that the the pit bull  had the Blue Tick Hound by the throat.

Chief Johnson did not believe criminal charges were recommended since the man was defending his dog.
