Man waving knife in intersection of Main and Egan taken to hospital

    JUNEAU, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau Police received a report of a man waving a knife in the middle of the intersection of Main Street and Egan Drive.Saturday afternoon around 4:30.

    Sergeant Krag Campbell says a 52 year old Juneau resident appeared to be under the influence and possibly experiencing a mental health emergency, as the man said he was using the knife to defend himself from imaginary animals that were attacking him.

    When officers arrived, they had their firearms out and ordered the man to drop the knife. He complied, was detained in handcuffs, and ultimately taken to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for a medical evaluation. The man was later admitted to the hospital for further medical treatment due to mental health issues and substance abuse."

    Neither the officers nor the man were injured during this incident.
