Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The state's marijuana industry again provided over $1 million in tax revenue to the state in May.
In fact the industry set a record with $1.2 million in tax revenue in May. It is the fourth time in five months that over $1 million was raised.
There is a proposal in the Department of Revenue to change how the state taxes part of the marijuana plant. Some business owners claim they can't make a living under the current system.
Cultivation facilities pay the tax. It is imposed when marijuana is sold or transferred from a licensed grow facility to a retail marijuana shop.
Any change in the tax would have to be approved by the State Legislature.
