Marijuana control board has new chairman

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Mark Springer of Bethel was named the new chairman of the Alaska Marijuana Control Board this morning.

The board regulates Alaska's legal marijuana industry. Springer replaced Peter Mlynarik, the police chief of Soldotna, who resigned last month when the U.S Attorney General changed policy toward marijuana and opened the door to possible criminal cases.

The Board, meeting in Juneau, named Brandon Emmett, has vice-chairman.

Gov. Bill Walker recently named Travis Welch to fill the public safety seat Mlynarik vacated.  Welch is the police chief for the North Slope Borough.
