Mearig replaces Coffey as DOT Southcoast Director

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The new Southcoast Region Director for the the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities starts work Friday.

    Lance Mearig was named to the job by Commissioner Marc Luiken.

    Mearig has over 35 years transportation experience  He has most recently served as the department's Director for Statewide Design and Engineering Services which includes acting as the department's chief engineer.  He began working for the department in 1982 and spent 25 years in private industry.

    He replaces Mike Coffey who retired Thursday after 35 years with the department.
