Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) - Two small planes collided above the Susitna River sending one of them plummeting into the river below.
The NTSB said the second airplane made a safe emergency landing. The surviving plane landed on a dirt strip at Lake Hood Seaplane Base, part of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
Alaska State Troopers identified the victim as James Poelman, 56, of Wasilla. He was piloting a Cessna 207.
An investigation into the circumstances of the crash continues.
