Mudslide closes Gold Creek Bridge

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Gold Creek Bridge on Calhoun Avenue at the entrance of Cope Park has been closed.

A release from the city and borough says a mudslide there has diverted the flow of water which is washing out the bridge.

It says the bridge will be closed to vehicle  traffic until further notice for safety reasons.  City road crews have placed road barricades and traffic signs.

As a general safety precaution, Streets and Fleet Maintenance Director Ed Foster is asking that motorists please avoid driving through running mud and water. He says the bridge near Cope Park isn’t an isolated incident. Running water and mud on roads is being reported throughout Juneau and Douglas, he added.
