Munoz and Flint named parade grand marshals

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The grand marshals for the 4th of July parade in downtown Juneau next year have been named.

    They are former Juneau Representative Cathy Munoz and Ron Flint,  who has worked with the Juneau Fireworks crew for over 40 years.

    Parade Director Jean Sztuk says Munoz and Flint were selected because they are great volunteers.  "Ron Flint has volunteered for about 350 different organizations  in Juneau.  Everyone knows Cathy Munoz's reputation of helping everybody in Juneau and the state."

    Munoz  represented the Mendenhall Valley district in the State House from 2009 to 2016.  She also served  three terms on the Juneau Assembly.

    Munoz  is  the  current chair of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and volunteers with numerous organizations and community events.  She also co-chaired this year's Golden North Salmon Derby.  

    Flint  is  the owner - operator of Nugget Alaskan Outfitters.

    In addition to the annual fireworks display,  he has served several years on the Juneau Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and as the business organization's president in 1993.  

    He was the past fund raising chair of the American Cancer Society and a two time "hair" volunteer with St. Baldrick's Children's Cancer Research.

    Flint has served as a council member for the National Federal of Independent Business and  a classroom volunteer for Junior Achievement.

    He has served on school district advisory committees and high school reunion committees.  He's coached Little League baseball, is a founding member of the Juneau Rowing Club, and worked as a trail maintenance volunteer.
