Nankervis to run for Valley House seat

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Juneau Deputy Mayor Jerry Nankervis will run for the Mendenhall Valley's District 34 House seat.

In a press release issued Tuesday, Nankervis says he filed a letter of intent with the Alaska Public Offices Commission to run in the August 2018 Republican Primary.  He's looking to unseat Democratic incumbent Justin Parish in the November 6 general election.

Parish won election to the seat  by defeating Republican Incumbent Cathy Munoz in last year's general election.

Nankervis retired from the Juneau Police Department as a captain following 24 years of year.

He was first elected to the local Assembly in 2012 and re-elected in 2015.   His current term ends following the local election next October so if he's elected to the House it would not create a vacancy on the Assembly.

Nankervis  has served as deputy mayor for the past 13 months.
